Can pick up trucks be driven downtown Chicago?
I just called the City of Chicago, who connected me with the Chicago Police. A pick up truck can be driven downtown, with the exception of King Dr., any of the boulevards, and not on Lake Shore Drive.

in workers comp / in new jersey can you also recive pain and suffering, from a contractor who did work on the floor weare thay mever put the rubber stop on the garment rack which caused the injury to my right wrist thae date of acident 11/2007 will be released on 12/11/2012

Answer

Depends on the nature and extent of the injury. We don't really call it "pain and suffering" in Workers' Compensation. If you make a complete healing and are 100% back to normal, then there is no award. However, if there is significant disability you certainly are entitled to permanency benefits. Further, from what you are writing there may be another case as well. Please call me at your convenience at (908) 359-0110.

Question

Is emotional abuse and spousal abandonment really illegal and how do I file a charge. I have called PD in His town and mine to no avail. I am desperate

Answer

Oddly enough, "illegal" is a term that does not have any real legal meaning. All it really means, sort of, is that something has a negative legal consequence IF it is made the subject of legal proceedings. Something being "illegal" doesn't mean it is a crime, which is all the police are authorized to deal with. It is "illegal" to breach a contract, but it is not a crime and there is nothing the PD can do about someone breaching a contract. If something is "illegal" but not a crime, it is up to the person who is wronged by the illegal conduct to file civil legal proceedings based on the wrongful conduct. Emotional abuse and spousal abandonment are not crimes. So if you are the victim of emotional abuse and/or spousal abandonment, you have to file your own legal proceedings to deal with it. It is not the police departments' business.

Question

Hello I am a new business / entrepreneur in need of legal assistance for patent applications. Is there anyone will help walk me through the process? I desperately want to learn how to become proficient in the patent application process. Are you willing to teach me?

Answer

The U.S. patent law was significantly amended on September 16, 2011. Some of the changes took place on that date, others (including an increase in government fees of about 15%) took effect on September 26th. Others will kick in during the next 12 months, and still others at 18 months from the September 16, 2011 date of enactment. So you're looking at a moving target. For further info on that, see http://www.uspto.gov/aia_implementation

For a basic overview of how the U.S. patent system currently works, read David Pressman's book Patent It Yourself http://www.nolo.com/products/patent-it-yourself-PAT.html (which was last updated 6 months ago; watch for further updates).

Beware that the U.S. patent system is a subset of a complex web of national patent laws, linked together by a variety of treaties starting with the Paris Convention on Industrial Property, the Patent Cooperation Treaty, and others, administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization. See http://www.wipo.int/patent-law/en/ for more.

There is a Canadian painter who uses a technique that might interest you. In the foreground of a painting is the figure of a young person using a learned skill, it can be any number of things, sports, carpentry, riding a bike, sewing, baking, painting etc. Behind the younger person, watching over him/her and smiling, is an almost washed out shadow of an older person, a grandparent, who passed on their skills to the next generation. The love of the two people for each other is touching.

Question

I have a question regarding a restraining order in Indiana. We are supposed to have a no-contact order and he has contacted me with threats via email, phone, text, twitter, facebook, etc. and he threatened my new boyfriend on several occassions. We let our prosecutor know and filed 3 police reports over the course of a month and nothing has been resolved. I am in fear for the safety of my boyfriend and myself. We kept records by printing off all messages with dates and times and burned the recorded phone calls at like 3 a.m. but the prosecutor never took them. I feel as if my case is never going to be handled. What can I do?

Answer

Take the restraining order and your records in to an attorney in your community who can review your enforcement options with you. If the "He" you are talking about is an ex-husband, you may have action you could take in the divorce case itself, but your own attorney can advise you of that.

If you are indigent, your local women's shelter may be able to put you in touch with an attorney who can help you out. Good luck.

Question

I was not arrested but got two citiation in georgia retail store for contributing to a delinquent minor and theft by shoplifiting. what do I do about dismissing the charges in traffic court

Answer

You are facing up to two years in jail, and $2000 in fines.

You have two choices. Go there yourself and expect things to go badly.

Or retain a very good criminal lawyer (no one here can tell you if dismissal is a possibility, but a lawyer can guide you through to the best resolution given the facts of your case.)

Answer

Go to court and demand that the charges be dismissed. You don't need any legal reasoning, just demand it. AFTER you get a conviction, then write back about how you cannot find a job, and you need the charges expunged. So, I can laugh at you a second time.
