What causes your taillights and brake light to stay on with the car shut down?
The lights [indicators as well as the tail and head lights] are connected to the battery directly whatever be the supply...be it a bike with 6v supply..or a car with a 10-24A supply...the current is always ready to flow ....The only obstruction is the switch which completes the circuit ...if you press the switch[or turn it in a car] then the circuit gets completed because of which the lights get lit...even without the car being on!When u turn the key for ignition then too you're doing nothing but completting the circuit for the engine and battery connection and after enough current is supplied the car starts up...try doing this:.....Even after your bike or car has started keep the key turned...you'll notice a whirring sound....this is so because the current is now flowing for more than required time thus the sound...hope the answer helped you!
