Question

I have a newborn who is born out of wedlock so i gave the child my last name . If i hyphenate her last name do she have to use both for example in school i would perfer my last name being used or she have to use both last names

Answer

She will likely be required, (by the school) to use what matches her birth certificate, The law does not forbid the use of an alias, though. She could probably be registered for school with the name from her birth certificate, but have everyone refer to her as the name you prefer.

Good luck
