my friend crashed my car over a year ago, i took the fall and took his word that he would help me with getting a new car and helping with insurance..i have not seen any money...is there anything i can do

You would have two years from the date of the incident to file a lawsuit against him. If the amount is not that much you can probably file in small claims court. Of course the problem is usually collecting on your judgment.
