Question

I am a Florida "snowbird," that is, I spend my summers in my native Connecticut, and the winters in Florida.

I have a Will drawn in Connecticut. If I should die here in Florida, is the Will valid here in Florida?

Answer

If you are a Connecticut resident, and your Will is valid in Connecticut, then Florida will accept it.

However, if that Will is not self-proved, then that will be a problem on contacting witnesses. Please check to see if the Will is self-proved (the names on the Will are notarized according to Connecticut law).

If you are a Florida resident, then it could still be valid if it complies with Florida law. This I cannot determine, and then in most cases it is best just to do a new Will in Florida.
