Is it bad for your car if you wait for low fuel light to come on before getting gas?
This may be bad
The fuel pump is cooled and lubricated by the fuel and any time it gets even a tiny amount of air in it it will wear and burn out very very quickly.
This is very likely if the low fuel light is on.
